"Hawaii" by Mélissa Drigeard in Belgian cinemas this May 10

A true story behind the screenplay

On January 13, 2018, a nuclear missile warning message was broadcast on all Hawaiian media. This announcement of an attack by the North Korean regime caused panic and confusion among the local population, before being quickly denied. It was Vincent Juillet, co-screenwriter of the film with Mélissa Drigeard, who discovered this incredible true story in a newspaper and thought it would make good material for a feature film. Melissa Drigeard decided to make this case not the subject of her film, but a postulate to evoke human relations. "And then there was still a bit of comedy in the subject: the real false alarm, the fact that someone pressed the red button by mistake and the governor of Hawaii took 45 minutes to find the password to deactivate the system! Stories that are hard to believe, but which are nevertheless true."
