Details

During World War II, Chevalin, a French deserter, finds himself in a desperate situation. To escape the firing squad, he and his family—his wife Paulette and their son Marcel—must hide at all costs. One day, while trying to avoid an identity check, he hides in a movie theater. During the screening, a stranger speaks to him, mistaking him for someone else. The man is a smuggler who is supposed to escort a Jew to a baroness, Madeleine, who hides Jews.
The possibility of hiding with Madeleine becomes a glimmer of hope for Chevalin. He makes a decision: to ensure their safety and have a chance to be sheltered and fed by Madeleine, he, Paulette, and Marcel will transform their French identities into Jewish ones.
Once they arrive at Madeleine’s home pretending to be Jews, Chevalin discovers that the man he was mistaken for is actually a resistance fighter involved in a secret mission. Madeleine then entrusts Chevalin with a dangerous mission, plunging him into a world of peril and intrigue.
